China Now for Teachers

The China Now for Teachers program was one of our flagship programs over the past decade. Our China Now program encouraged and inspired teachers to include more lessons about modern China in middle school and high school curriculums. Key pillars for success focused on:

• Professional development for teachers: This annual two-day workshop featured U.S.-China experts from a variety of disciplines to bring contemporary issues in and about China to teachers. Teachers who completed the two-day workshop were eligible to receive Continuing Education Units (CEU) from San Francisco State University.

• Expert Speakers: Seminar speakers were recognized experts in academia and business who provided rich resources and offered different perspectives to the teachers to address topical issues on contemporary China. 

Curriculum development support: Each workshop was designed with hands-on work sessions for teachers to exchange ideas of how to teach the material in their classrooms and to create actionable lesson plans. The speakers and the workshop moderator circulated through the breakout sessions to answer questions and offer suggestions for formulating curriculum plans. In addition, a post-workshop Curriculum Plan Contest inspired teachers to create and share their lesson plans.
